Pre-Poo/Deep Conditioning Treatment

9.17.2013

Items Needed:
- 1/4 cup of Coconut Oil
- 1/4 cup of Honey
- 1 Applicator Bottle
- 1 bowl
- Funnel (optional)
- Gloves (Unless you don't mind having sticky fingers)

The Facts:
This treatment is really good for relaxed, or natural hair. If you have longer or thicker hair, alter the measurements to suit your hair's needs. According to the Science of Black Hair book, coconut oil prevents protein loss and is great to use as a pre-poo treatment before washing your hair. Also, honey is a natural humectant that draws moisture out of the atmosphere into the hair.

The Process:
If your coconut oil is at room temperature then simply place it in a microwave for a few seconds to liquefy it. Next, mix the coconut oil and honey into a bowl and pour the mixture into an applicator bottle. Careful, this step can be messy so pour using a bowl with a spout, or use a funnel.

Another method is to use an applicator brush (brush used to apply relaxers and hair color), and apply the mixture that way. However, using the applicator bottle isn't as messy.

Apply the mixture to your hair and cover the entire strand. (Especially the ends.) Once all your hair is completely saturated with the mixture, cover with a plastic cap and sit under a hooded dryer for 15-20 minutes. (Or longer)

The Results:
After rinsing, your hair should not be sticky, but soft and fluffy. Enjoy this sweet treat.
