How To Refresh A Twist-Out

Okay, needless to say I am having so much fun with my new found love. Twist outs of course! I can't wait to come up with more styles using two strand twists.  This post is simply a refreshed twist out from the original one I did a week ago.  If you missed my post then click HERE.

This is how my hair looked about six days post initial style. I kept the flat twists on the side in place and simply re-twisted the remainder of my hair.

I took small sections of hair and spritzed with water.  I made sure that I only spritzed enough water to make the hair "damp" and not "wet."  I found out that my twist out has more definition and dries faster with damp hair. After I dampen my hair, I add just enough ECO Styler gel to feel it on the strands. (Don't overdo on the gel)  Lastly, I rolled the ends of my hair with perm rods (gray).  This is how I achieve the "Curly Fries" look. Not pictured here: Those flat twists are still on the right side of my head hanging out....Hehehe.

Next step, I covered those perm rods with a shower cap.  Here is where my creativity ran wild. I poked a hole in the middle of the shower cap and forced my handheld blow dryer threw it.  Then I secured the shower cap around the nozzle of the blow dryer with a small elastic.  This was my free style bonnet because I did not want to sit under the hooded dryer. Oh Yeahhhhh>>>>>  It inflated just like a balloon and was perfect for the job.  I will continue using it. After 30 minutes I removed the shower cap, put on my satin bonnet, and slept with the rollers still in place.

The next morning, I coated my hands with coconut oil and gently unraveled each two strand twist. QUICK TIP: The twists around my edges are braid half way down and then twisted the remainder of the way. I only unravel the twisted potion and leave the braided section in place. This helps keep edges smooth and prevents hair from swelling out of control. It definitely makes a difference in the appearance overtime.
This style lasted me another 6 days. Maintenance = Simple.

(April 1st - October 1st) is my protective styling months. I don't normally straighten my hair during this time because of the humidity in the south.
*Six Months Curly*

3 Day Old Hair (Twist Out)

This style is really long lasting. I did not expect to see twist-out definition with 3 day old hair. The curls are surviving simply because I sleep on the side with the flat twists. I love this style simply because it gets a little bigger everyday. However, with time comes change.

Wednesday, I am going to re-twist again just to see if I can make tighter curls. I will post a tutorial on the steps I take. (just in case anyone is interested)

By the way, from (April 1st - October 1st) is my protective styling months. I don't normally straighten my hair during this time anyway because the humidity in the south won't allow such things. LOL. Call it a hair vacation if you will.

Hair of the Day

Hello Hair Friends!

I can finally say that I have learned the imfmous twistout. It has been a long time coming. LOL...I will do a tutorial soon on how I got this look. I call it "Curly Fries." It was insprired by a video I saw from Mo Knows Hair. One side is flat twisted with bantu knots, and the other half is a two strand twistout with perm rod curls on the ends. I'm going to retwist in about 2 days so I can get more wear out of them.  I love this style so much and I will probably be rocking it for the summer as a protective style.

Hair Care Share

I thought this would be helpful to anyone who workout, are on a hair care journey, and are looking for something new. Of course, the best solution for overall health is to exercise, eat a well balanced diet, and drink plenty of water. These suggestions above are things that I've tried previously and currently. I did not see immediate hair growth but the ingredients in these products are HAIR FRIENDLY and promote hair growth. There is no quick fix for hair growth but if you put good in, you will see good results. (Buyer Beware: Be mindful of INGREDIENTS. Some products listed contain things such as: added sugar, thickeners, added vitamins, artificial ingredients, wheat, eggs, peanuts, etc. Use your own discretion.)

1. Special K Protein Shake Strawberry Banana - This shake tastes really good. I use to drink it every morning when I exercised on a daily basis because the protein is good for building muscle. Protein is also good for hair and nails. Other great ingredients in this shake include: Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Biotin, Iron, Zinc.

Carnation Essentials is another one of my personal favorites. Its a powder mix that can be added to a glass of milk. I sometimes blend it with strawberries, bananas, and yogurt for added nutrition (By the way, I can't stand the taste of yogurt unless I can mask the taste lol).

Both of these drinks come in an assortment of flavors like vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate.

2. Barleans Superfruit Greens Strawberry Kiwi - I tried a sample of this drink mix at a health food store about two weeks ago and I was sold.  This powder formula tastes great and is packed with great ingredients including: probiotics, enzymes, Vitamin C, and eight servings of fruits and vegetable per serving.  This is a great supplement for sodas and juice. Simply add to a 4-8 ounce bottle of water.

3. Cliff Bar Crunchy Peanut Butter -  This is a nutritional protein bar that is hair/health friendly and good for those who exercise as well. I like it for what it does for the body as a natural source of energy.  It's made from oats and soybeans. It also contains biotin and vitamins c and e.

Kashi Go Lean is another good nutritional bar as well. It's made with natural ingredients.

4. Supplements - this is another good way to get necessary vitamins on a daily basis. Supplements like fish oil, vitamins C and E, and biotin are very good for hair, nails, and overall health.

5. Multivitamins - Multivitamins are my personal favorite vitamins to take because they cover a wide range of vitamins. One A Day Vitacraves taste just like you're eating candy but instead your consuming vitamins. Some vitamins include: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Biotin, etc.
