Highlights of 2017

12.31.2017

1. This was my first post of the new year this year. My hair was starting to grow back from the "mini big chop" I had got in 2016. Here is a link the both the big chop (HERE) and the first post of 2016 (HERE).

2. This was my favorite style from this year. I use to wear side pony tails all the time when I was younger and when my hair was longer as a natural. However, since my "mini big chop" that was no longer an option until this particular post. I was so excited that my little strands were growing back. I was rocking this style for weeks and I even laid my edges (which I never do). HERE is a link to this hairstyle.

3. This is my favorite shampoo/product from this year. I was blown away at how gentle this shampoo was. It is low lather, moisturizing, and a little goes a very long way. I discovered this product by accident when I was contacted by reviews.com to check it out. I don't regret the decision to try it out. Nor do I regret all the great things it does to my hair. It is definitely a new staple product of mine. Check out my review about it HERE.

4. This is my last length check from this year. My hair has literally jumped over the broom of growth and I am happily married to the length. Not to mention, I'm pregnant, so the length can be attributed to vitamins/hormones I'm sure. Never the less, growth is still growth lol. Check out this length check HERE.

5. This is the post that never was and it featured a product that made my hair feel like straw. I started to make a post about how bad it was but I decided against it. This was a conditioner I purchased because I was trying to find a replacement for my Herbal Essences Naked Cleansing Conditioner. This conditioner is called Herbal Essences Naked Volume White Grapefruit & Mosa Mint Conditioner. Needless to say, the volume ingredients attributed to the dryness and stiffness I felt after using it. I did like the smell but Mr. Volume and I have had a past and he doesn't like my natural hair...at all. :)

6. This was the most viewed, liked, and commented on post/video from this year. It featured a way to make your very own satin lined cap from scratch. This particular post/video was an update from the previous "DIY Satin Lined Cap" I made in 2016. If you want to check it out, the link is HERE.

7. Anything Question Related was something I wanted to get started with this year and I managed to get one post out about it. However, this was my favorite post because I spent time answering a hair related question that I received from a hair friend. It was nice because I spend a lot of my time learning from other hair friends and I like that I can contribute in some type of way as well. Click HERE to see that post.

8. This was a post/video I made about a month ago that is my favorite video tutorial of the year. It is a  deep conditioning cap with removable pouches. For example, you simply microwave your rice/lentil/flaxseed pouch and place it inside the deep conditioning cap. Once you're done using it, the cap is washable due to the fact that the pouches can be removed from the cap altogether. It is on Youtube as well if you are interested in checking it out or you can simply click HERE.

I hope you've enjoyed my highlights from the year. Feel free to share some of yours in the comments below. Thanks for stopping by. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

Self Trim Results

12.30.2017

BEFORE

AFTER

I really do like my self trim results. Typically I can be quite scissor happy and chop off too much. However, I am learning to be comfortable with the uncomfortable and patient. There are still some areas that need more attention than other but they will get addressed in the next trim. I simply cut little by little to get rid of the thinning parts of my hair.

My hair does appear longer in the "AFTER" photo due to the fact that my hair has been wrapped at night and flattened out tremendously. However, the top photo was freshly flat ironed hair which was still a little puffy.

I hope you're having a great hair day and will have a better hair year in 2018.

Final Length Check of 2017

12.25.2017

January 2017 Measurements:

Front - 10 inches
Middle - 10 inches
Side - 9 inches
Back - 7 inches
Overall Length: (A little past) Shoulder Length (SL)

December 2017 Measurements:

Front - 13 inches (+3 Inches)
Middle - 13 inches (+3 Inches)
Side - 11 inches (+2 Inches)
Back - 10 inches (+3 Inches)
Overall Length: Armpit Length (APL)

My new goal is to be armpit length by September 2017.

The statement above was what I said my goal was for my hair back in January of this year. My hair was shoulder length at the time and I was on a journey to restore my temple damage around my hairline (Update on the temples coming soon). However, I am amazed at just how much growth I have retained. I moved from the square on my length check shirt to the four leaf clover. Which is approximately 4 inches of overall growth. Not to mention, I have trimmed my hair here and there throughout the year (nothing major though). I've also neglected my hair like crazy due to the fact that I have been pregnant since April of this year. With that in mind, I know that the prenatal vitamins and hormone changes has helped my hair grow and I hope that postpartum shedding won't affect my hair too much (fingers crossed). However, this growth is the most I have seen in my entire life and I am literally thinking MERRY CHRISTMAS TO MY HAIR RIGHT NOW... LOL. Of course, I plan to get a trim in the near future but I want to self trim...any suggestions?

Thanks for sharing this hair care journey with me for those of you who have stuck around despite my inconsistent posting. I hope to see what great things you have accomplished this year besides anything hair related so drop a comment to let me know. As always, I anticipate an even bigger and better new year with you guys and my blog.
